Rana is a disgraced knight of the Empire who was sent to hunt Meera down. However, after witnessing the Ivy Dragon’s power and seeing Meera move past it without violence, he experiences a crisis of faith. He eventually turns his blade against his former masters, acting as the group's shield.

### The Empire of Argentum
A sprawling, rigid civilization that believes order is the only way to survive a magical world. The Empire fears the **Glass Citadel** because the Citadel represents "The Beginning"—a place where anyone can rewrite the laws of reality. 

* **The City Council:** The administrative heart of the Empire. They are obsessed with efficiency and believe that magic should be "bottled" and taxed. They view Meera’s journey as a direct act of terrorism against the "Natural Order" they’ve established.
* **The High Priest (The Priest):** The spiritual advisor to the Council, but secretly the one pulling the strings. The Priest claims to serve the gods, but he actually wants to reach the Citadel first to write a story where he is the eternal Emperor. He uses "Time-Silt" (shavings from the Ivy Dragon's territory) to artificially age his enemies.
